Review: The Summer I Destroyed You was by far the book I DEVOURED in this series. I loved how this book was taking place alongside the previous timelines and found that Liam was A LOT more mysterious than I had previously thought. The way Elizabeth was able to craft his character and story sucked me in and left me in an epic book hangover after it was over. I found that the way his tortured hero identity was reflected throughout this book elevated the story arc in this book since it allowed us to see how destroyed he was when he first met the only girl he ever was drawn towards.
Emmy and Liam were two people who were opposites on every stance they could argue over and I LOVED their collision. The push and pull they each had led to a lot of heartbreak for me since Liam was almost too good to be true and it hurt to see him falling more and more for Emmy while I could never tell if she was getting attached fully! Elizabeth was able to capture the darkness within each of their stories in a way that allowed them to begin to heal with the other but also made me want to hug each of them. Liam was of course my favorite from the beginning, partially because I had waited since book 1 for his book and partly because he was SUCH A GOOD GUY that I could not not LOVE HIM! The way he captured Emmyโs heart and gave her a soft place to fall warmed my heart in ways I wasnโt expecting. Elizabeth truly blew the top off anything to do with him opening up to Emmy and giving her that place to be herself.
These two were EPIC in the romance department as well. I am always down for a reverse player romance. I found the way Emmy was the one brushing off and refusing attachment at first to be perfect for the romance arc in the story since itโs the opposite of what you normally see. I also loved ALL the banter Liam and Emmy had with the sweet text and snark mixed in. The most surprising thing to me was how dirty Liamโs mouth was! I could not believe the mysterious tall, dark and handsome man had all the dirty going on underneath the stoic and aloofness!! The plot twist at the end also warmed my heart and in my opinion was the best way she could have ended their romance!
Rating: 100+, Liam was EVERYTHING and I loved seeing his HEA play out FINALLY!!
Thank you ValentinePR and Elizabeth for this eARC!
