The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

3.0

Somehow the twist, which I wasn’t expecting a twist in this book at all, ended up being kind of a disappointment instead of a world shattering event. Some (ok lots… all, even) of the actions of the therapist were so far out of line that it was nearly impossible to root for him as a protagonist. I mean, boundaries dude. It felt unbelievable pretty quickly that a mental health professional would go to such lengths to be a detective about his patient’s backstory in the name of “treating” her, just didn’t ring true.

The story wasn’t bad or totally unenjoyable, it was just off in the believability to knock it down a few stars. Definitely not the worst story I’ve ever read but I think it’s been overhyped.
