The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi

4.0

Both beautiful and painful, Emezi's sophomore adult novel is somewhat less literary than their debut but no less heartfelt. I wanted a bit more nuance to the characters and I found the reveals predictable, but even so it was lovely seeing Vivek and Nnemdi getting to find and be themselves, at least for a little while. It's incredible to see an author manage to covey both pain and promise so effectively.
