Small Game by Blair Braverman
5.0
I went in expecting a survival thriller, what I got instead was some of the most compelling writing on sapphic attraction I've read in a long time. It's funny because I jokingly said to my friends before reading "the only way this book could be more perfect for me was if it were gay," well lo and behold. Don't go in expecting a romance per se, they're both very flawed people in a terrible situation, but they way they see each other...
Also don't go in expecting a thriller. I don't know if it was actually sold as such or I just saw it miscategorized. It is not lacking stakes, but it is definitely slow and contemplative rather than a thrill ride. I kind of already expected that out of Blair given everything I've heard from her. Her writing really spoke to me here and this book just feels unique. It's nothing I expected yet exactly what I needed
