This was a lot of fun! Not much of a typical whodunnit, but I loved the quirky friendship of Bobby and Frankie, and their reckless way of tackling the mystery.

As for the question, "Why didn't they ask Evans?"
Well, no spoilers, but the answer did not disappoint.
