A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
really read two books back to back that were both "short story collections with interweaving narratives" huh
i don't really know what i thought this was going to be. it starts off strong with the opening chapter/story but her story turns out to be the most compelling by far and then we get some real nasty people pretty quick. hated a lot of these men a lot wish
it was compelling enough i suppose and the writing style was fine but every time we got to a new character that sucked i wished we went back to kleptomania. didn't like how she wrote about fat people or the way she wrote about the trip the one family takes to africa. i thought the last chapter was NOT good because
don't have a lot else left to say. read almost all of this in a 14 hour period where i also slept for 7 of those hours

i feel like she had a poor grasp on like, what would become popular. like... babies buying stuff on ipads etc tracks but the way everyone types in texts felt wholly divorced from the way anyone writes or speaks english which felt incredibly lazy. also the weird aside about tattoos and piercings being unpopular with young crowds like......... MAYBE super rich "high class" young crowds but people have been getting these for literal millenia so it seemed baffling and not accurate in any way. just felt like not a lot of thought put into the futuristic section of the book at all.don't have a lot else left to say. read almost all of this in a 14 hour period where i also slept for 7 of those hours
