The Silver Eyes (Five Nights at Freddy's Graphic Novel) by Kira Breed-Wrisley, Scott Cawthon

2.0

This was my absolute first introduction to FNAF but since it was such a big deal at the comic shop I worked at I thought I should try dipping a toe in.

Perhaps if I was more familiar with the property it would have been better. I was filling in a lot of gaps as I read, and the last page made absolutely no sense to me. It's definitely a story for existing fans, rather than an introduction.

Initially, I hated the art a lot. It was very web comic-y, kid of amateur, and very kid-oriented. But as I read on I did start to see a really good grasp of facial expression and body language. Although the art was simple and childish, the artists really brought a cinematic feel to some of the scenes.

It's weird to me.that this story, which is legitimately really gory and dark, is aimed so squarely at children. Tonally, it's off.

Overall it certainly wasn't a bad read. I'm sure children will enjoy the scares, and for fans of FNAF perhaps it will hit the spot. But it wasn't for me.
