The Fury by Alex Michaelides
4.0
The story: Movie star Lana Farrar is weary of the English rainy weather and wants to escape to her Greek island getaway with her friends. The party includes Lana, her husband Jason, friend Kate, son Leo, and two members of her loyal staff. Oh, and her friend Elliot Chase who also happens to be the narrator of the story. What follows is full of twists, deception and manipulation.
Thoughts: This was truly a fun read for me. The Greek island setting adds greatly to the atmosphere, with the ominous sense of a storm building. The entire story is told through Elliot's eyes so the reader only has his word for anything, and we know this from the beginning. I really enjoyed the way this felt like an intimate discussion, although you are aware that it is possible that a great deal of it isn't true. And justice is served in an unexpected way.
If I could suggest an improvement in any way, it would be some character development for Jason. We don't get to understand what attracted Lana to him and why she married him. The reader only sees a very negative view of him, through Elliot's perception.
This issue aside, I enjoyed the novel immensely, as I did with The Maidens. This author is now on my must-read list. Thanks to Celadon for providing me with a copy.
