The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer

4.0

Everyone must have had at least one brief stint while growing up where they wanted to be an astronaut. This is the dark side of that dream (no pun intended).

Up until this point, I had always thought of space-travel as an adventure, a leap into an endless world of possibility. Dangerous, yes, but that had always been universally acknowledged as the price of a worthwhile adventure. I had seldom witnessed it portrayed like this. The Darkness Outside Us is a story of what makes us human. At once lonely and intimate, bleak and brutal yet painfully hopeful. I highly recommend.
