Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers
3.0
was trying to finally get things out of my Currently Reading so I read the entire back half of this last night.
we've read I think.... 4 of her books now for book club and I really just do not love them! They're not the worst things we've read and aren't like, offensive or badly in need of an editor, I just don't really like the tone i guess. It feels like every one of her books has like a soft focus instagram filter over it, that any bite and tension is taken away and all that's left is a fuzzy positivity even when negative things are happening. which isn't like, inherently bad but I just don't really enjoy it!
if you've read any book of hers I think you know what to expect. characters are still very vaguely drawn and mostly exist to help flesh out the worldbuilding which i find tiresome. the best and most realistic character in the book was the two year old baby. i did love him, he was very cute. very two.
that's all! if this book club keeps going I am going to discourage them from picking more of her books.
