The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin

challenging reflective medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes

4.5

This certainly was a challenging read, I wasn't really sure what to expect of it but it definitely asked a lot more of me than I thought, although also a lot less as I feel as though me not fully understanding everything on the first read is part of the point. It's complex, and the complexities and nuances are something which will unravel and reveal in time and upon rereads.

Anyways, I found this to be beautiful and bizarre and surprisingly moving - I found myself crying when
Estraven died, and when he wasn't able to see the ship land and was never declared not a traitor. It all felt rather gnawing and sad.
