If You See Her by Ania Ahlborn
dark
mysterious
tense
slow-paced
4.0
Yet another solid read from the current Queen of horror. Ania hints at a couple of classic tropes in this one-haunted house and possession-but used them to form a psychological thriller rather than her typical horror stories. It worked and I liked seeing that range in her writing.

This was the first time I was let down by an ending from Ahlborn-it wasn’t bad, just a bit predictable and dare I say it…tame. The main thing that kept this one from being a five star read was the development of the supernatural element within the plot. There were a few things along the way that made me think of a movie I loved and that might be my problem, because I recognized the similarities and got very excited, only to be let down when we peeked at a path I expected, but never actually ventured down it’s trail.

Despite those minor complaints, I really liked this story. Ania’s writing style always keeps me hooked from the first page to the last and this was no different. I thought the main characters were great and there were some genuinely creepy moments.
