Lightlark by Alex Aster
Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
Okay, here’s the tea on this book:
It’s not terrible, but it’s not for me. The idea for this book was intriguing, but it wasn’t executed in a way that held my attention.
First, for me to really get into a fantasy book, I have to feel a strong connection to the main character(s). Isla, the main character in Lightlark, lacked a personality.
Second, I like really fun world-building. Some of the information-dumping was bugging me in Lightlark. I like for fantasy novels to show me what’s going on, not always explain with random information dumps. The writing was also very YA, which is fine, but I struggle with connecting to YA writing sometimes.
Overall, I think a lot of people might really like this book, but it’s not one I’m intrigued enough to finish.
