The Quarter Storm by Veronica G. Henry
3.0
The Quarter Storm effectively captured the atmosphere of New Orleans, with vivid descriptions of the city’s locations. The exploration of Vodou and the portrayal of Mambo Reina Dumond’s magic were highlights. However, the murder mystery plot felt tangential to the novel's strengths. The pacing was uneven, and the romantic subplot was unconvincing. I believe the story would have been more impactful if it had focused solely on the world of Vodou and the protagonist’s magical abilities.
