The Protector by Dee Henderson

Five stars+!!!!! Excepting the first book (owned), I borrowed this entire series from our local library sometime between 2001-2003, I think. I am only guessing. After reading the entire series, in order, I bought the two volumes containing 3 books each. I also own the prequel. I had read it after the series. It doesn’t matter if you read it first or after 6-book series. The prequel does not feature an O’Malley but it does have Dave, who is in Book 1 with Kate. I also bought the novella that came out years later. Do read the six books in order and the novella afterward for the optimal reading experience of this collection.

I’m writing this review in February 2023 so my reviews are much the same for all the books, excepting a few additional comments about Book 1, the Prequel, and the Novella. It’s been a long time but these books have stayed with me. I’m doing the reviews with much of the same words in the interest of time.

This series was one of my earliest introductions to Christian Fiction other than Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. Honestly, I hardly knew the genre existed as a regular thing.

This entire series was the start to a my HUGE library of physical books, digital books, and audiobooks of Christian fiction.

This is the fourth book and is about Jack O’Malley, a firefighter. I love how the O’Malley siblings all came together to form their own family to support and encourage one another. They succeeded in the face of trials and hurt. Each of the six books focuses on one of the siblings, excepting Jennifer. Her story came out as a novella years later. I read the prequel after the six books. It is about a woman named Sara. The FBI agent in that book is in Book 1 with Kate O’Malley.

The two volumes of the six books, the prequel, and the novella are treasures to me. They’re like friends that I miss and I want to visit time and again. I don’t re-read a lot of books but I’ve read this series about three times. I’m sure I will read it again, talk about it even more, and recommend it until the end of my days.
