WOAH. This is one of the best, most original fantasy books I’ve ever read.
It took me a while to get into it. I was lost for the first 100 pages or so, trying to make sense of this new world with rules I didn’t understand. But after that? Oh my god. This book is incredible.
it’s unlike anything I’ve read before. Jemisin’s writing is stunning and engaging, and she does a second person POV as one of the three perspectives which is uncommon and I thought it worked extremely well. I need the second book like, now.
I was also surprised at how much I enjoyed this given that there’s not that much of a romance. In a lot of books that’s something I look for, but here the story was so unique that it didn’t bother me at all. Just, yeah. READ IT
