I have a feeling Ill be thinking about this book for long after I read it, in a way that i’ll either be raising this to 5 stars or bringing it down to 3. I really don’t know how I feel. This story unsettled me in a way a book never has. Mexican Gothic did so but it was in a fantastical mysterious way. This book unsettled me with truth and showed me a story of a mother daughter relationship that forced me to confront my own, and just generally made me feel uncomfortable for an array of reasons. One interesting detail was that I disliked almost every character but could see myself in each of them which is an odd feeling. This short review is very incoherent just because I’m very conflicted and jumbled about a lot of things after reading this book. I want to say I loved it? But also didn’t at all. I’m really not sure.
(My favorite part was Doshi adding in sentences that could be seemingly innocuous and innocent or that could have at the same time some intense deeper meaning / reveal about a character)
