An awesomely twisty tale about two brothers. Yes, there are demons and magicians and swords. Also! A goblin market, witty dialogue, and moments of the ridiculous made mundane. It's a phenomenally dark world, with just enough hints of lightness to keep it out of despair. Jamie does a stellar job of pulling you back from the edge when things get extra scary or creepy or what have you.

But forget all that, my favorite part is the brotherly interaction. Nick and Alan rival Scarlett and Spencer (of Suite Scarlett) for awesomeness. In a story related by one of the most bleak and angry narrators I've ever encountered, there was this insanely FANTASTIC core of familial connection. It was so compelling, that as soon as I finished the last page I wanted to pick it up and start all over.
