This was a very unique story, and I'm not fully sure how to describe it. The plot was a mix of everything—sad and dark, then cozy and wholesome, then mysterious and exciting, with a smattering of quirkiness throughout.
I really enjoyed the main character, Nell. Her pragmatic personality was kind of refreshing. Rowe was also great! Their interactions with each other were so much fun to read that I didn't mind how slowly the plot developed.
When the climax hit, the action definitely kicked up a notch. In fact, my main criticism of the book would be that everything near the end seemed to happen too fast. There were some information reveals that confused me, and I think it would've helped if the plot wasn't as rushed. But I didn't REALLY care because I'd already enjoyed the book so much that I was willing to forgive any little quibbles I had with it.
I'm eager to see more from this author!
