Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

Before I get to the spoilery part let me say just few things: If you decide to read this book, you're in for a ride full of humor, but also horror, multiple hearth attacks and lots of banging your head against any wall nearby (and maybe a bit of love :D). This book just got me. I don't know if it was better or worse than SoC, but it was definitely something!

And now some major SPOILER ALERT
Like really if you read the following text and haven't finished CK, you will hate yourself forever!!!

Spoiler
I needed to hold myself a lot not to fall apart while reading about Matthias's death. Like I know he found peace and stuff and he believes that one day he'll be reunited with Nina in afterlife, but... come on!!!
I'm kinda mad at the author for pulling Cassandra Clare's move (from Lord of Shadows) and by that I mean killing a really essential character nearly at the end of the book. It's just so mean. I finally get the feeling that everything's gonna be all right, because what could happen in the last few chapters after the main problem is solved. And then the author comes with her devillike smile like: Booooojaaaah! You didn't expect that, did you? And of course I didn't who would?!!!?
Which takes us to ships: At first I wasn't really much for that whole Jasper + Wylan thing (sry, still haven't found the ship name), because it would be kinda weird for all the members from the original crew to end up together. However, now that Matthias is out of the way (gosh, that sounds cruel and makes my eyes water a bit) I'm rooting for them 24/7!!!
Now to get some brief pause from that whole dark matter, I would just love to mention how funny was the scene with Jasper and Kuwei kidding! Like the identity swap was right there offering itself to the world and I'm just so glad the author took the oportunity :D
And finally the ending scene. It gave me chills!!! Especially the line: She's going to cut out my hearth! It was nice to see our bad guys as the morally damaged bad guys again!!! :D
I would truly love to write some more about this, but now I just have to go and find some dark corner to die in, because of the frustration from this ending. After all I'm not even completely sure if I want the next book to exist… But really who am I kidding??? If it comes out I'm going to read it one way or another!
