The Only Plane in the Sky: The Oral History of 9/11 by Garrett M. Graff

Where to begin. Last night when I finished this book I had so much I wanted to say. I decided to sleep on it and now I'm not even sure where to start.

For those of us who lived through that horrible day 20 years ago when the world changed and America stood together this book is a good reminder. For those too young to remember or who weren't born this sums up the day well. Throughout the book Graff has entered remarks tying things together and helping paint a clear picture of the timeline of events. The fact that this is a compilation of oral histories also does a good job capturing the distress and confusion of the day. This is a powerful read.

I've heard good things about the audio version of this, that it has a 40 person cast. It might be worth checking out. I read the print version though it was helpful I was doing so on my Kindle as it allowed me to use the x-ray feature when I got confused about who someone was.

The book starts the evening of the tenth and continues through the following day, giving an epilogue that covers up to 15 years after the attack.

Though I haven't read anything else about that day, I would say this is an excellent choice for making what happened real.
