Not Safe For Work by Lindsey Lanza
5.0
Olivia is working through an embarrassing break-up and towards a new promotion that seemed like a done deal but is now turning into a pipe dream. She's the only woman on her sales team and the boys' club boss wants Olivia to date a client in order to close a massive deal. Gavin is Olivia's least favourite and most attractive colleague and he's here to save the day. He's here to try at the very least, and he hopes to try without revealing his long-time crush on Olivia.
NOT SAFE FOR WORK is an excellent read that looks at the inequalities women experience in the workplace, keeping it light and palatable with a budding romance intertwined. I adored reading Olivia and Gavin's story; who doesn't love a he-falls-first workplace romance?
Olivia is a strong, ambitious, and courageous woman with a good head on her shoulders. She's a woman working on a tech sales team surrounded by other men, and to succeed she's got to give 200%. Gavin is Olivia's colleague but he's been hiding his long-standing crush for the past couple years. He's so sweet, caring, and supportive. I really enjoyed the fake-dating aspect of this novel and watching them fall for each other. The chemistry was palpable and I loved the connection they built together. There are some notable spicy scenes, my favourites being the elevator scene and the wine cellar.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters in this story, notably Churro (the cutest hedgehog), Andie, Gaby, and Daanesh. I enjoyed the relationships they had with the main characters as well as how they loved and supported both Olivia and Gavin throughout the story. Olivia experiences a lot of sleazy encounters and people so I could not have been happier that Gavin and Daanesh were such stand-up guys. Daanesh being the person and CEO that he is and standing up for women's rights in the workplace was such a relief to witness. I can't imagine working in a workplace culture that treats women as less than their male equivalent - it's very saddening and disappointing to know this still occurs.
Lastly, I absolutely loved the wine country vibes that were interspersed throughout. I know next to nothing about wine, but I do love visiting vineyards so this was a really cool feature of this read.
Many thanks to Lindsey Lanza for gifting a digital ARC of this novel. All opinions expressed are my own.
