Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

5.0

I HAVE TOO MANY FEELINGS RIGHT NOW!
Now, where in the world is the sequel? And WHY don’t I have a time machine?

HERE IS THE THING. Suddenly… I am made of feelings, and I don’t like it! I hate feelings! Feelings are the salt of the earth! and it is all this book’s fault.

Strange the Dreamer is the story of Lazlo Strange- best character! I love him with my heart of hearts– an orphan who has always loved stories. People call him a dreamer, and they aren’t wrong. Lazlo has an intense desire to find a lost city by the name of Weep, although it wasn’t always its name, and he has devoted his life to find clues that could give him the answers he so strongly seeks.
This story is centred in the unknown, in adventure, compassion, and what it means to belong. It is a beautiful example of pain, loss, and impossible decisions. It shows you the best and worst of characters, and it looks into different points of view, so as to force you to understand that you can’t hate anyone whose motives you know, when you understand their minds, when you know how it has destroyed them as people.
Hatred and revenge are a very important themes in this book, and I am guessing that it will be no different for the next. But, it is done so well that there is not one character that I hate! because I understand every. single. one of them.
The author took the time to show all of their humanity, and all of what they’ve sacrificed. Who they are at their best, and what they can become at their worst. Strange the Dreamer, at its core, looks at the complexity and fragility of humans & of monsters. I have been enchanted by it.
But, enough of coherent thoughts!
I AM DECEASED! Strange the Dreamer managed to be witty, and fun, while also ripping out my heart, setting it on fire, and then pouring the ashes in a toilet and flushing…

What to know some things?
