Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown
4.0
This is a great book but I think I came to at the wrong point of my life- it's a little young for my current reading taste. This book is part memoir and I have the utmost respect for Brown's story and am so glad this exists in the world for young readers who need it. There's also a magical element that explores some of the pervasive problems of systemic racism and the need for more attention on intersectional feminism. I love the way the narration jumps mid-sentence between some scenes to give the book a layered effect, and I love the MC. I would highly recommend this to any/all high school students (particularly in the US). CW: rape, addiction, violent bullying.
