Such a wonderful book, especially for teens! I hadnt even finished it yet and had already recommended it to students. As an adult reader I didnt love the lull around the middle where she's obsessing over the boy she has a crush on, but the book shifted back to focusing more on her pursuing poetry, and her relationship with her mother and her feelings about religion- which I was much more interested in.
I thought the resolution with her mother was a little rushed and would have liked if they had gotten more into the details of how they repaired their relationship. Also, I would have screamed if she had slept with that boy and honestly he should have been the one to stop it/shouldnt have tried to make a move when she was so obviously upset. My bar for good guys is not that they stop when you tell them to stop. She is so happy that he doesnt yell at her for not wanting to have sex. Girl, he shouldnt have tried to have sex with you at that moment anyway! But I digress
