You Should Have Left by Daniel Kehlmann
4.0
The title kind of says it all. This is a short--that is, very economical--twisted tale of a screenwriter and his family who move into a house that starts out a little odd and becomes...well, it really always was...something of a trap. As bad houses/haunted houses go, it's probably distantly related to House of Leaves, a geographic impossibility that spells doom for anyone living in it. The writing, too, is economical and jagged, not always following the rules, and that's very fitting for the story.
