In this volume, Lindon finally comes face to face with Jai Long in the duel set up by Eithan back in volume two, Soulsmith, which has been worth waiting for. The outcome is never clear-cut as there are more factors contributing towards the outcome than just their individual spirit levels and the experience of the two individuals, with the resulting conclusion being deeply satisfying.
We also see the rise of a new threat to the Blackflame Empire in this volume, which has direct consequences for all the main players. We also get several new characters introduced, who are written equally as well as the existing ones, who themselves continue to grow in both personality and interest.
This is another wonderfully engaging read that will keep you turning pages at a brisk rate of knots.
