The Mystery of the Yellow Room: Extraordinary Adventures of Joseph Rouletabille, Reporter by Gaston Leroux
3.0
I love a murder mystery, so when I found out that the author of The Phantom of the Opera had penned some I was keen to pick them up, starting with arguably his most famous - The Mystery of the Yellow Room.
In many ways I enjoyed this mystery. The set up was good, the characters were vivid and exciting, but it was at the crucial conclusion part that I felt the mystery fell apart a little. I just found the solution pretty underwhelming considering the complexity of the puzzle, and I think far too much relied on characters not revealing things when they could have.
Still, it was a fun, zippy little mystery and I can definitely see why it is iconic in some ways, so absolutely worth picking up for fans of a good locked room puzzle.
