A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker
5.0
I'm not going to rehash the blurb of what this book is, but I am going to give you the best description I can here. It's ironic that it has a really interesting closeness as it were, to the situation at hand of what were dealing with now--the social distancing, no congregating in crowds, a virus that affected a lot of people, and a way of life. We're not deling with the other aspects of this--the terrorism, the bombings etc. but, at the moment, this is more relatable than some people might want to admit, but, that aside, thiswas an amazing read by an author that I seriously hope will write more, create more, and give us another concert between the pages as she has. Sarah Pinsker has done a phenomenal job of creating a world where you're sucked into the characters, their thoughts, fears and emotions, and you find yourself buoyed along by their excitement and disappointments and fears alike, and the ride is an
awesome one. When Sarah Pinsker describes the shows and music, it honestly has the feel of a great concert you never want to see end. And, if this book could have one feel, it would be the earth-moving feel of an awesome concert you've always wanted to see. This was parts Ready Player one, with the technology, and different world, and part Hunger games, with just enough dystopia, but not the battles, blood and guts of fighting physically to survive. This was fighting and survival on a new level I don't know that I or anyone has ever seen or experienced quite yet, but with current circumstances it feels like something closer than what we would have thought it could have been a while ago. I stumbled across this one earlier this week, and on a whim, I picked it up just to see what it was about, as I do with a lot of books. I start it, and if it doesn't grab me, it's hooks don't get set in me as it were, I'll walk away from it and may come back to it later, but then again, I may not. It depends. And, well, it grabbed me. It has just enough og that beginning of an apocalypse feel, emotional drive, to make it intriguing and before you know what happened, boom!! You're in the middle of the pressing crowd, begging to be closer to the stage, and in the middle of the action not wanting it to ever stop. Screaming your lungs out for more and singing along to every word. Too bad this book doesn't have a soundtrack it would be a rock solid heavy soundtrack for sure with enough textures, genres, and feels for everybody.
Now that I've written this, go read it!! I promise you, you're not going to be disappointed. It's like finding that gem of a book from a sack full of dimestore books, that definitely was worth it's weight in gold and anything else in that bag, you know the type. It brings it all home. It will resonate with you for a long while. Especially if you're a music lover, and even if you're not, the story will drive you home. Happy reading, and enjoy. Stay tuned, I've got more good book goodness coming.
