Mrs Winterbottom Takes a Gap Year by Joanna Nell
4.0
Mrs Winterbottom Takes A Gap Year by Joanna Nell is a delightful story about married couple, Alan & Heather Winterbottom. Both are GP’s in their small rural community where they have run their practice and central to the community for years. When the time comes to retire, they both have very different ideas of what they want to do – Alan wants to grow vegetables and relax into home life while Heather earns to travel looking for the adventure she missed out on when young. After realising their paths are heading in different directions, Heather decides to travel to Greece alone and discover herself through new experiences including some tempting situations. Will their marriage survive retirement? Or is this the start of a new life apart?
I really enjoyed this feel-good story that had me giggling out loud in the first half of the book as I could just imagine my husband and I having some of the same struggles with retirement after working together for so long! I connected to the endearing characters, and the vivid descriptions of Greece sparked me wanting to run away there too!
If you’re after a light-hearted look at the dynamics of long-term relationships, with some giggles along the way, this is well worth picking up and it won’t be my last book from this talented author.
