When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead

5.0

I devoured this book. I found myself craving my blankie and the warm corner of the couch for two days straight just so I could lose myself in this beautifully written YA novel. When You Reach Me was surprisingly a comfort to me, like an old familiar friend. Maybe its retro setting reminded me what it was like to be twelve-years-old. Maybe its reference to the beloved classic, A Wrinkle In Time conjured up my own precious childhood reads. Whatever it was, I truly admired Stead's warm writing style and her ability to interweave genres. Just the right amounts of sci-fi and mystery embedded in this realistic piece turned out to be the perfect combination. A little something for everyone. In the end, I was personally enchanted with this novel and can't wait to recommend it to both tweens and adults.
