Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare
5.0
This book was absolutely AMAZING. I loved it. The entire time I envisioned it as an interactive horror video game like The Quarry or Until Dawn and I think that made it even better. Pondering what would have happened had different decisions been made. IT NEEDS TO BECOME A GAME!!! And Frendo totally deserves to become a franchise. I can totally envision it becoming the Midwest corn version of Ghostface from Scream.
My commentary:
- 1% is this what it is like to be a teenager today? All about streaming live? Facebook photos were bad enough. I can’t imagine having the pressure of seeming cool via live streams.
- 9% I don’t know why but her sighting the clown mural with her phone camera and snapping a photo instantly gave me interactive horror video game vibes. Now I’m going to be envisioning this entire thing like it is The Quarry
- 17% this teacher is absolutely mental. Idk the full extent of what these kids did, but he’s the adult. He is the teacher. If he can’t take them asking to move the test date, even if they were being brats about it, without having a full blown mental break down and taking it out on the new girl who doesn’t even know these other kids, he shouldn’t be a teacher. I will say that this makes me think of a Spanish teacher we had in middle school. The kids absolutely tortured him. I’m pretty sure he actually broke down in tears on at least one occasion, if the rumors were true. But honestly, if you can’t handle a bunch of middle schoolers and their stupid antics (all sitting backwards one day in class. Everyone dropping their pencils in unison every 5 minutes on the dot. Etc), then you should not be a teacher. The kids did not do it to any other teacher. Only him. And it was because he was completely incapable of appearing as an authority figure. He gave into it. His weakness encourages it and made it a game. I was swapped into his class briefly from my regular Spanish teacher in exchange for a student who was I guess one of the primary leaders of torture, so I got to witness first hand his patheticness.
- 47% she is standing here saying that she doesn’t like killing animals (in reference to hunting for one’s meat) and that she doesn’t think it is humane. Yet she also says she eats meat. If she really had a problem with it, she wouldn’t eat meat.
- 65% I know I said the teacher was mental but I really did not expect him to be the one slaughtering all these kids. I guess I should have. I’m really glad that the Spanish teacher from my middle school didn’t go crazy and decide to kill us all…
- 68% honestly, though, this would make an awesome interactive horror. Right now you would have had to chose whether not Janet cried out to try to save everyone or if she should stay quiet. While they were passing you would have had to hold the controller still like in Until Dawn. While in the silo you would have had to decide whether to open the door and a number of other things and reactionary moments. You would have had to decide if you loaded Janet’s gun or left her unarmed and ignorant. You would have had to decide if Quinn decided to shoot, and if so, did you aim and actually make the shot? I NEEEDDDD this game!
- 68% Janet just got her head cut off. Would if she still be alive if she had decided to remain quiet and hidden in the corn?
- Janet’s body just tripped over her own face. That line is just wow
- 69% Cole calling out or not would be a decision
- 71% poking the barrel of the gun out of the door hole could have been a decision. Who was to know that the clown wouldn’t grab the gun and take it away? I would have been afraid of that and headstand to stick the gun out there. And maybe that hesitation would have gotten us killed
- Whether or no Quinn gave Ronnie the gun could have been a decision
- 76% coming to the road was NOT the right decision. Those headlights are NOT going to save you. It’s more of the crazy adults from this town who Will try to kill you
- 80% what is happening?! Ronnie and Matt are in on it?
- 87% another decision moment! Exit via the front or back door. And her finding the cleaver would be something you needed to do- to discover and pick it up while exploring the kitchen. Otherwise she wouldn’t have it.
- 88% leap through and stab her through the shower curtain!!!
- YESSSSSS
- And leaving the cleaver in her head is another choice. Never leave the weapon!!!
- 89% I will be so upset if she dies because she doesn’t know how to drive a manual transmission vehicle. It makes me feel the need to learn how to drive a manual transmission in case I ever need the skill to save my life
- 95% such a freaking until Dawn moment with Rust actually being alive at the end!!!
- 100% Now I see how there will be a sequel. I can totally envision this clown outfit becoming something like the Scream Ghostface mask. It deserves and entire franchise.
