The Other Valley by Scott Alexander Howard

Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
DNF @ 25% – Bailing out here. This book’s premise is absurdly good but the writing isn’t working for me at all. It takes itself a little too seriously, leaning towards literary fiction so much that it forgets to make its central conceit interesting. The tone felt simultaneously droll and standoffish, more interested in telling a lifeless romance story than in writing about time travelling through neighbouring valleys. There’s so much that could’ve been done with this idea that I’m not sure why this is the narrative or stylistic direction that the author chose to take. Very strange, did not enjoy what I did read. I’m sure there’s more to it, but I won’t find out.
