Book of Night by Holly Black
1.0
I can't make myself finish this. Listening it on audio was probably the best move with this book because if i had been reading it physically, i'm sure i would've quit it much sooner.
Charlie is the most bland and passive main character i've encountered in a long time and she grated on my nerves way too much. The constant reminder of how many bad decisions she took throughout her life and how "wrong" and twisted she was honestly made me laugh; like, where is all of this coming from? Literally from nowhere, everything was telling and not showing.
Also, the world-building made no sense to me whatsoever and sure as hell it wasn't difficult to grasp, but for some reason the depiction of it was lacking in detail and nuance and the explanations felt really convoluted.
As for the romance between Charlie and Vince i have no words, there is more chemistry between water and fire honestly.
I'm so frustrated because even though i'm not a fan of Holly Black i sure was looking forward to this book as it was pitched as something that i would really like, turns out i was better off wishing
