Three Things I Know Are True by Betty Culley

5.0

Liv is a 15 year old who loves her big brother, Jonah. But Jonah is not a typical 17-year old brother. He was injured after accidentally shooting himself with a neighbour’s gun and, as a result, paralysed and severely brain damaged.

This novel is both beautiful and sad as it follows the family’s journey to fight for justice and financial support to help meet Jonah’s needs.

I loved how memory and current events are woven together in such a compelling way. It slowly reveals what led to her brother’s accident and what life has been like since. Liv does whatever ever she can to make him comfortable and always seems so positive and engaging with Jonah, but we start to see how much his condition affects her and the family. And how isolating it is to be so closely connected to such an awful event.
