In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

“I wish you knew that. I wish you understood that you could have love beyond your wildest dreams. Stuff movies are made of. You’re meant for that too”
“ I don’t think I am”
“You are. You know how I know?”
I shake my head.
“Because that’s the way you love me”
Where to begin with this book?
I bought this book on a whim. We were in lockdown, I wanted to get back into reading and so it was one of several books I purchased from the iBooks store at random.
I am so very happy that my fingers clicked onto this, I may have stumbled upon it accidentally but this book is so wonderful that I think it may be one of my favourites for 2020.
This book is set up to look like a grand sweeping romance with a fantastical element to it and quite frankly it delivers, though not in the way you might expect it to. I will refrain from spoilers but the way love is looked at here is so devastating in its beauty I honestly had to pause at several moments to collect myself.
This is not my type of go to novel, I am 100% a lover of a certain level of predictability in my novels and I die for a happy ending. This book fulfilled none of those but it was breath taking to read, I found myself so caught up in Dannie’s life that I couldn’t put the book down.
Do I recommend?
I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It might not be your cup of tea but I beg you to give it a chance, don’t give up because you think you know how it will ends and I promise that the payoff that Rebecca Serle delivers is ultimately so worth it.
