This book had the opposite problem as the first one: the beginning and middle were wonderful and worth 4 stars, but the end was 2 stars and dragged it down to 3 in total. The author did too many things for plot convenience and I didn't believe that certain characters would behave certain ways. I was willing to forgive the first mischaracterization for plot reasons, but at the end there were so many that it was hard to trust any character's actions. The end made the rest of the book and all of Jude's actions feel pointless. There was also a gaping plot hole throughout the book. That is the reason the beginning was only 4 stars instead of 5.
