It took me a while to finish this book because of the sheer density of its subject matter and the constant emotional intensity, but I am so, so glad to have read this.
Reading this was book page after page of heartbreak and then rebirth and then heartbreak all over again. It was an absolute delight, and amidst all the darkness it reveals, it gives me so much hope. R.F. Kuang, you are an absolute genius, and the book's subtitle was so well chosen.
I will be thinking back on Babel for many years to come.
definitely read if you like: references to classic english literature, musings on translation and interculturality (but those are quite obvious pre-requisites), discussions on decolonization, biblical references!!! (also a little obvious), getting kick dropped in the stomach every 2 pages
