The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank

I was just so damn enamored with this collection of linked short stories, all of which, save for one, concern the life of Jane. These stories act as snapshots of a life in the process of being lived, without anyone, or thing, telling her what that life is supposed to look like or how it's supposed to be lived. The glimpses into this life accentuate the moments when we wish we could be told who we are, when we realize our lives are not as momentous as we may think they are, that we're just one person out of many. Gradually, Jane's experiences accumulate as she tries to define herself, finding her place in the world and establishing her place in her own life. Ultimately, a story about trying to be yourself when you don't know who that person is.
