The Sugared Game by KJ Charles
5.0
Reread February 2022, still fucking fantastic.
_____
Geez, I liked this one even more than I liked the first one!
I absolutely love Will Darling. I don't even know how to describe how/why I like him so much, I just do. Plus, he owns a used bookstore and reads a lot of books, so he's obviously wonderful. And Kim Secretan, despite his shady ways (or maybe because of them?), is also delightful.
This book was so fast paced, with so much action, it just sped by; I don't think there were any real slow parts. I am doing a buddy read of Slippery Creatures and one thing that was mentioned in the discussion was about Kim's privilege; how the fact that he's titled and upperclass doesn't really impact him or his decisions (which is pretty much the definition of privilege). In Sugared Game there are more discussions on this, and I really appreciated that (as I am a complete sucker for discussions on class/privilege). It was really well done, so that it wasn't clunky or obvious.
Also, I love the covers and the fact that Will's messer is on every one.
I have all the good things to say about this book!
