The Other Side of Night by Adam Hamdy
4.0
I rarely write reviews, but Mr. Hamdy asked me to in the acknowledgments section. :-)
I enjoyed “The OtherSide of Night”, and I give it a solid 4 stars. I was also asked not to give away spoilers, so I will just write down a few general thoughts of my reactions to the book. I will keep them very simple.
1) Some reviewers did not like characters development. I can see, a little bit, of what they did not like about this, but I don’t think it was necessary. It was a good read, and while I am no literary scholar, nothing about the character detracted me from
2) I thought the “twist” at the end was good.
The main issue I had with the book was that I felt it dragged on too long about 25-35% of the way in the book. I put it down for a few days and when I picked it up again, I got back into the flow of the story and finished it over the next two days.
This is a book that is hard to recommend, because I feel I would have to know someone well enough, or I would have to give away some of the book’s secrets, and I don’t want to do that.
If you do start to read it, and get frustrated and/or are unsatisfied in the first 1/4 if the book, I do recommend, you should push through, as I believe there are more than enough people who would be happy they did.
I hope this helps anyone who reads my review. It will also give proof as to why I don’t write book reviews for the NYT and only read them. :-)
