She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen
5.0
I somehow didn't expect to love this book so much. It's a shorter YA book and maybe that's why I assumed it would be light and breezy and wouldn't hit me too hard but oh my god this book packs a punch!
I absolutely flew through this story about Scottie and Irene, two girls who seem to hate each other. Scottie is on the basketball team, still trying to get over her toxic ex and Irene is the cheerleader who seems to have it out for Scottie. By chance of events, the two end up fake dating and start seeing each other in a different light. I mean sapphic enemies to lovers AND fake dating?? Chef's kiss.
Everything is executed so well. The storyline is engaging, cute and complex as well. This book is genuinely funny and I've really missed laughing out loud at books. The relationship between Scottie and Irene and Scottie and her ex Tally is just built up so beautifully. Everything is complex and emotionally charged and overall very beautifully executed. I found the characters to be quite mature when it came to certain relationship decisions and I really appreciated how some romantic moments weren't there just for the sake of romance but added to the characters and their relationships as a whole. It's hard sometimes to find romances which echo reality and step away from the bubble of book romances and third-act structures that rely on miscommunication.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would all in all 100% recommend it!
