The Vegetarian by Han Kang
5.0
absolutely horrifying in the best way. it forced me to think about uncomfortable things— is it moral to let someone die? is it okay to leave things behind?
the highlight of this book is the subtle way the narration treats the men. the fact that yeong-hye’s brother in law never refers to her by name and completely objectifies her… the pedophilic overtones in his fascination with yeong-hye… the fact he also never refers to his wife by name… this truly is a book about asshole masculinity and the domestic oppression of women and girls! i dont even need to mention cheong because we all know he sucks!
