bonus points for an intriguing concept, but i found this book to be extremely poorly executed. the writing was just not up to par with what i'd consider a "literary" novel. the beginning had paragraphs of just 'this happened, then this happened' etc. type of sentences, the horror / sexual elements just felt thrown in for shock value, and all the characters felt soo one-dimensional (i was truly not attached to anyone).

i wanted to like it because classical piano + sci-fi/horror concept + commentary on imperialism + sapphic undertones but it was just ..... not very good.
