4 stars because it felt so rushed and was short. But, I almost gave it 5. Outdated language, which is so odd since it was less than a decade ago- language changes so fast in queer and trans communities. But, a great quick look at transgender history and how it intertwines with feminist and queer history, mostly in the U.S. I would have liked more international history and ball culture history and stuff like that. I like Stryker's writing style and she gave it enough feeling to make it interesting while still keeping it objective enough for you to draw your own conclusions.
