Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell

I enjoyed this book for the most part. At times it is repetitive and I was annoyed at the constant (more on that later)’s in the first parts. After reading others reviews I’m some what shocked they thought the book didn’t focus enough on language. I don’t feel that it was misleading at all. It very much did talk about language used across cults and ‘culty’ groups. The author does acknowledge this distinction.

This book had a chokehold on me. All the intertwining details of a small group of people and how their secrets were kept from one another but also held them together. Mary Kubica kept me guessing with all the little twists and how the characters interact. I really like the different POV’s. At first I thought it was confusing but it really helps with the complications of each characters’ dilemmas.
