Literally came for Luke's backstory and got more than i could've wanted, especially "Son of Magic" by Haley Riordan. It is so well written and dark and I so badly want to read more stories and books that are written in that style, with main characters like Doctor Claymore and Alabaster.

I don't remember much about this book, as I read it in 2019. All I can say is just- meh.

An important read for kids from 12-18 years old. I read the book when I was in 7th grade, in 2021, and it taught me a lot about teenagers who express their mental illnesses through anger. My mental illness currently, as a 9th grader, is usually expressed through fear and numbness, so this book opened my mind to see the other side of the same coin of mental illness and abuse.
Honestly, thank you Ben Mikaelsen for making the book, and thank you to my 7th grade teacher for making this book a class book that we had to analyze and discuss with one another.
If I were to reach out to those classmates again, I'm very sure that they and I would agree that this book hit a special cord in our hearts during a time where COVID-19 was still prevalent, and were in online school.

- don't trust this review as a reason to read the book. i read this when i was in 4th grade, and now i am in 9th, and i just wanted to add this to my storygraph as a read book.
- from what i remember of this book, it is a classic, and the characters were very comforting at a time in my school years where i felt alone and bored.
- i would recommend any kid from 2nd-5th grade to read this book. :)
