3.5 - i truly love a clique vibe except this time it was with a little Frankenstein mixed in ??? Being inside Samantha’s head felt like a fever dream; you could never really tell if she was a reliable narrator, what exactly was going on in the real world or if she was imagining it. Rly interesting first read of 2023!!! I’m not sure that exploratory horror fiction is gonna be my niche but glad i tried something different!

Not my fav Brad Thor novel.. the number of times the main character just “had a gut feeling” or “something in the back of his mind bugged him” about a problem… pls! Also some murky waters with the way he describes the Muslim population at times - i think this being from 2006 gives context but still

Aw i loved this!!! What a wild insight to how women in STEM (and women just in general??) were treated back in the day. I always wonder what I would have been like if i were born then (housewife Alicia?). I love this book because it gave merit to those doing the behind the scenes work around the house (sahms!!) and appreciated their capabilities. Very empowering :’)

Lindy West is strong, empowering, and speaks so intelligently about the experience of being a woman. She hosted Aubrey Gordon when I saw her live a few weeks ago and was HILARIOUS. “Abortion is normal, it’s okay to be fat, and women don’t have to be nice to you.”
