Engaging, deep, complex, compassionate, insightful… one of the best books I have ever read. Definitely a top shelf read.

Chaol’s redemption arc and the connection back to Assassin’s Blade with Yrene. This book was amazing and I don’t understand anyone who says otherwise. It is hard leaving Empire of Storms on that cliffhanger to come to this book but the book was incredible and it makes me that much more excited to see how all of these stories will come together in Kingdom of Ash.

Lorcan traveling with Elide. I cannot get enough of them. Empire of Storms is where my Roman Empire began.

Manon. Manon. Manon. Love her. When the witches were first introduced I wasn’t sure what I thought but now when a witch chapter comes along, I am so excited. Also, DORIAN. Hello. The character development, I am loving it. Also, Lysandra!! As good as the plot is, I am obsessing over these characters. Abraxos is giving Ferdinand and I love him.

Very YA, ya know? But for a character backstory, getting set up for a series, it is a great start.
