Nnedi Okorafor did it again. This is cute and fun YA fantasy about kids learning magic, and it's also about generational trauma and growing up disabled in a society that treats you as disposable. Okorafor always speaks on 10 levels at once, and even the few times she misses her swings still pack a punch.

From a CoDA, this is the first book I recommend anyone read if they want to learn ASL or wants to learn about Deaf culture. Deaf experiences are so rare in media, but I felt so seen and understood by this book.

An invaluable resource for any trans woman. Serano's perspectives are vital and important when dealing with trans life in a cis public, but some of her analysis of power dynamics in queer spaces (especially amongst different kinds of genderqueer folks) is a bit lacking.
